World History Encyclopedia (WHE) is already one of the world's most trusted sources for historical knowledge. We enjoy incredible authority within our field: we are a non-profit resource trusted and recommended by heavyweights like Oxford University, the School Library Journal, and Teach Magazine, and our digital library is actively used in thousands of classrooms worldwide and loved by history enthusiasts of all types.
However, much of this massive reach comes via anonymous search engine traffic; while millions of readers visit our platform every month, many interact with our content without fully registering who we are. As an evolving, AI-driven web begins to shift search behavior and push traffic toward automated summary tools, relying entirely on search discovery is no longer enough. We need to actively increase our direct brand recognition, shifting WHE from an anonymous "search result" into a highly recognized, household name that students, educators, and history buffs seek out intentionally by name.

We are looking for a Brand Growth Marketing & PR Specialist to design, lead, and execute a comprehensive brand strategy to convert our massive baseline web traffic into direct, intentional brand recognition.
In this role, you will work directly with our leadership team to cultivate an active, loyal audience that bypasses the AI summary middleman entirely to access verified, human-authored history. You will actively own the strategy and execution, specifically focusing on:
Brand Awareness Framework: Develop a long-term outreach and visibility strategy that permanently establishes WHE as an authoritative, top-of-mind brand for learners globally.
Audience Conversion & Retention: Map out and develop touchpoints across our ecosystem to turn casual, one-time website visitors into deeply engaged long-term community members, tracking brand loyalty and retention metrics.
Cross-Channel Synergy: Audit and align our brand presence across our active product pillars —including our digital library, our physical book catalog, and our mobile app— to ensure a unified narrative that drives organic viral growth.
Please note that this is a hands-on, execution-focused position. We need a resourceful doer with at least five years of experience in brand marketing or corporate identity who can both map out the strategic vision and handle the actual day-to-day campaign work and rollout.
You are able to commit at least 5 hours per week to this position.
Proven marketing or PR experience of at least five years, preferably in publishing
